There had been a input in recent week as shared in the previous post that Chinese hackers are planning to “Teach India a lesson” via a cyber attack. This conversation was shared in a report by a Singapore based cybersecurity firm Cyfirma. Today, that report came out to be true. Chinese hacker group are now targeting companies who are in Telecom, Pharma and Media industries. These hacking groups also Targeted multiple Indian Ministries.

[Previous post regarding the planning of attack can be found below]:

Ministries the hacking groups targeted are:

  • Ministry of Defense.
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Apart from ministries in India, Chinese Hackers also targeted companies of different sectors.

targeted companies:

  • Reliance Jio
  • Airtel
  • BSNL
  • Micromax

  • Cipla
  • Sun Pharma
  • MRF
  • L&T

As discussed in the previous report, Cyfirma had traced the conversation of hackers in the forum to the original IP and found it related with Gothic Panda and Stone Panda. These Hacking groups have close association with Chinese Government, as per Cyfirma.

Both Gothic and Stone panda hacking group have been seen actively participating in such attacks recently on India, Japan, US, Canada and Brazil [read our recent blog post analysis on how these attacks are in co-relation with the current disputes of these countries with china]. Defacing websites, Data ex-filtration, DDoS, and Phishing campaigns are the ways these groups have targeted their victims till now.

Things have been escalated a lot after the Anti-China sentiments in India after the clash of Indian and Chinese soldiers in Galwan Valley,Ladakh near LAC(Line of Actual Control). If such tensions keeps on increasing, Then you should gear up to the max, as this cyber warfare isn’t going to stop anytime sooner.
