Upstream has released a report which shows malware spikes in Q1 2020 with 29,000 malicious android apps, which is double the rate found in 2019.

Secure-D, is Upstream’s full stack anti-fraud platform, which has its reach with 31 operators in 20 countries. Secure-D has seen a dramatic 55% spike in the numbers of malware infected mobile devices.

The data Secure-D demonstrates is alarming as 9 of the 10 top malicious apps in Q1 2020 are available on google play. It means they even bypass the security checks done by the google play platform easily. It is now available on many other application stores like Huawei’s AppGallery app storefront, Xiaomi’s GetApps store etc.

According to the Platform, SnapTube is the most troublesome app till date. Its a video downloader that has been downloaded over 40 million times worldwide. The Secure-D platform has blocked more than 32 million fraudulent transactions relating to SnapTube alone in 2020 so far.
